Auckland Domain & Museum, a 10 minute walk from Ascot Parnell

The Auckland Museum is one of New Zealand's best known historic buildings, and one of Aucklands most visited attractions. A war memorial with galleries - "Scars on the Heart and Holocaust" - reflecting New Zealand's part in the wars of the world.

In the Domain are the Winter and Fern gardens free to the public from 10 am - 4:30 pm every day.

Overall, the Museum provides a window on New Zealand's cultural and natural history and houses a fine collection of Maori treasures. The Discovery Centres - "Weird and Wonderful" and "Treasures and Tails" are places for fun and exploration of the natural world and human culture for kids of all ages.

The twice daily Maori Show at the Auckland Museum is interesting and entertaining, and a great introduction to the Maori culture. Every Sunday afternoon during summer, there is Jazz in the Park. Every January & February there are free large concerts in the domain, like "Opera in the Park" and "Symphony under the Stars".

The Explorer tourist bus stops across the road every 30 minutes.

The Cathedral of the Holy.

On the way to the Domain, you will walk past St Mary's Church and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. This is the world's newest Cathedral, the world's only Pacific style Gothic building. The Cathedral also acts as a centre for the performing arts.
The city Link Bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the Ascot Parnell, taking you to downtown, the ferry terminal and all major shopping streets and important locations such as the University, the Hospital, Sky city, intercity bus and railway stations, there is one every 10 minutes and they run until late.
The Maritime Museum on the waterfront has many active displays and can include a trip on a tall historic Sailing Boat. At a 5 minute walk from the Museum you find yourself in the America's-cup Village.

The ferry terminal to Devonport is in downtown, 1 mile away. You can hop on the Link bus to go there.

Devonport, Rangitoto and Waiheke Islands are only a short ferry ride across the harbour.
